Arabic music and globalization. The influence of Western culture on the formation of the message in lyrics.

The aim of this thesis is to show the influence of Western culture on arabic music/the influence western culture had on Arabic music, and in particular its’ impact on the song lyrics and message they convey. In this essay, the term of globalization and its after effects in the Mashriq and Maghrib will be explored and recounted along with opinion about this phenomenon presented by Arabs themselves. The genesis of the arabpop, hip-hop and rock in Arab countries will be also discussed in the next part of the thesis. Several main figures of music genres mentioned above will be introduced to the reader. The autor will focus on the analysis of fragments of the lyrics in the political and social context, as to prove the actual impact of western culture on the message contained in arabic song lyrics.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie, jak kultura Zachodu wpłynęła na muzykę arabską, a w szczególności na przesłanie zawarte w tekstach piosenek. W pracy wyjaśnione zostanie pojęcie globalizacji, a także ukazane jej następstwa w krajach Maszriku i Magrebu, a także opinie samych Arabów na temat tego zjawiska. W kolejnej części pracy nastąpi omówienie genezy arabpopu, hip-hopu i rocka w krajach arabskich. Zostaną również przybliżone postacie głównych przedstawicieli każdego z powyższych nurtów muzycznych. Autor skupi się na analizie fragmentów tekstów w kontekście polityczno-społecznym, a we wnioskach dowiedzie faktycznego wpływu kultury Zachodu na przesłanie zawarte w arabskich utworach muzycznych.
