The thesis analyzes the problem of accrescent organized crime in the United States and the difficulties faced by state authorities. These difficulties arise due to lack of complex theoretical background, problematic ways of conceptualizing organized crime, globalization of organized crime, and the rapid development of high technologies used for conducting modern crimes. The reader will be provided with existing theories concerning organized crime phenomenon, history of organized crime in the US and the main representatives of organized crime groups, the evolution of counteracting organized crime and the analysis of the contemporary state of organized crime and its potential development in the future. Finally, it can be concluded that organized crime is a significant problem, especially for the international security, having the same hazard level as terrorism, and it should be confronted with the effort of all states, international agencies, and institutions.
