The Comparison of Translation Techniques and Strategies in the Polish and English Translation of Pippi Långstrump by Astrid Lindgren

This thesis is dedicated to the novel "Pippi Långstrump" by Astrid Lindgren and its translations into Polish and English, by Irena Szuch-Wyszomirska and Florence Lamborn accordingly. The purpose was to compare the translation techniques and strategies that were applied by both translators in their works. The paper consists of two parts: the theoretical and the analytical one. The former provides the theoretical framework in terms of translation of children’s literature and gives an insight into some of the techniques and strategies in accordance with Krzysztof Hejowowski’s research. The latter encompasses the analysis of certain translatological problems based on extracts from the novel.

Niniejsza praca dotyczy powieści Astrid Lindgren „Pippi Långstrump" oraz jej przekładów na język polski i angielski, tj. „Pippi Pończoszanki" w wykonaniu Ireny Szuch-Wyszomirskiej oraz „Pippi Longstocking" autorstwa Florence Lamborn. Celem pracy było porównanie technik oraz strategii tłumaczeniowych zastosowanych w obydwu tłumaczeniach.Praca składa się z części teoretycznej oraz analitycznej. Teoria oparta jest na metodologii, która przybliża specyfikę przekładu literatury dla dzieci oraz wybrane techniki i strategie tłumaczeniowe w ujęciu Krzysztofa Hejwowskiego. W części analitycznej dokonała została analiza wybranych problemów tłumaczeniowych na podstawie poszczególnych fragmentów powieści.
