Adaptacja literatury dla dzieci na przykładzie Podróży Guliwera Jonathana Swifta

Celem niniejszej pracy jest omówienie adaptacji w tłumaczeniu literatury dla dzieci. Praca poświęcona jest Podróżom Guliwera Jonathana Swifta oraz polskiej adaptacji autorstwa Cecylii Niewiadomskiej. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział oferuje zarys teorii dotyczącej adaptacji z uwzględnieniem pozytywnych, jak i negatywnych poglądów na jej temat w kontekście tłumaczenia literackiego. Przedstawione zostały motywy skłaniające tłumaczy do adaptacji, jak i jej sposoby. Drugi rozdział jest analizą satyry Swifta. Uwagę poświęcono wszystkim czterem częściom, koncentrując się na treści oraz cechach stylistycznych, które utrudniają lub też ułatwiają adaptację omawianego dzieła dla młodych czytelników. W trzecim rozdziale zinterpretowano adaptację Niewiadomskiej. Utwór został najpierw zanalizowany pod kątem teorii skoposu. Przypuszczalne funkcje adaptacji, jej docelowi odbiorcy oraz modele zostały zdefiniowane. Następnie zaprezentowano oraz sklasyfikowano strategie użyte w procesie adaptacji w celu ukazania różnic między oryginałem Swifta a polską adaptacją, dotyczących nie tylko treści, ale również gatunku i wydźwięku utworu.

The aim of the present dissertation is to discuss adaptation in translating literature for children. The focus of this paper is Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels and a Polish adaptation by Cecylia Niewiadomska entitled Podróże Guliwera. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of theoretical approaches to adaptation, accounting both for positive and negative views on adaptation in literary translation. Reasons for adaptation as well as its modes are enumerated. The second chapter is an analysis of Swift’s satire. Attention is given to all four books, focusing on the content and stylistic features which either hinder or facilitate adaptation of the work for young readers. The third chapter is devoted to the interpretation of Niewiadomska’s adaptation. The work is first analysed against the skopos theory. The adaptation’s possible functions, target audience and target models are defined. Next, adaptation strategies used by the translator are presented and classified with a view to demonstrating the changes not only in the content, but also the genre and tone of the work in comparison to Swift’s original.
