The European Parliaments position on Brexit

The BA thesis describes the position of the European Parliament and its political groups towards the withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union. The author tries to prove the hypothesis that the said body actively participated in the negotiations and played a key role in the Brexit process. The work consists of three chapters. Chapter I presents the background of the whole process, the premises for conducting the British referendum and its outcome, the referendum campaign and the legal basis for the withdrawal of a Member State. The course of negotiations and the role of the Council of the European Union in this process will also be presented. Chapter II describes the role of the European Parliament in a Member State's withdrawal procedure in the context of Great Britain. Adopted resolutions, which were a representation of the body's position and guidelines for the European Council, will also be presented. In Chapter III, the speeches of MEPs during debates in the European Parliament will be analyzed in order to determine the position on Brexit of individual political groups.

Praca licencjacka opisuje stanowisko Parlamentu Europejskiego oraz jego grup politycznych wobec wystąpienia Wielkiej Brytanii z Unii Europejskiej. Autorka stara się udowodnić hipotezę, że wymieniony organ brał aktywny udział w negocjacjach i odgrywał kluczową rolę w procesie brexitu. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Rozdział I przedstawia tło całego procesu, przesłanki przeprowadzenia brytyjskiego referendum i jego wynik, kampanię referendalną oraz podstawę prawną wystąpienia państwa członkowskiego. Zaprezentowany zostanie także przebieg negocjacji i rola Rady Unii Europejskiej w tym procesie. Rozdział II opisuje rolę Parlamentu Europejskiego w procedurze wystąpienia państwa członkowskiego w kontekście Wielkiej Brytanii. Przedstawione zostaną także przyjęte rezolucje, które były reprezentacją stanowiska organu oraz wytycznymi dla Rady Europejskiej. W rozdziale III analizie zostaną poddane wystąpienia europarlamentarzystów podczas debat w Parlamencie Europejskim, w celu ustalenia stanowiska wobec brexitu poszczególnych grup politycznych.
