Jan Czeczot : prekursor białoruskiej folklorystyki

This article is an attempt to describe Jan Czeczot’s work on folklore and ethnographic in which he not only tried to document forms of unique culture for future generations, but also to create a scientific description of Belarussian language. Considering a vast amount of material on the matter, that still needs to be carefully investigated, the author concentrates her attention on the most important facts and writings which, in her opinion, best characterise Czeczot as Belarussian folklore and ethnographic scholar.
