Portrayal and symbols of a women in Chinese society as the topic of Zhang Yimous filmography

This work describes the symbolic meaning of women in Zhang Yimou's filmography and how it relates to Chinese society. China is a country with a rich history and culture. They are characterized by attachment to their tradition and Confucian principles. The work consists of four chapters. The first one presents the famous Zhang Yimous’ filmography and describes its history. This introduction aims to show the reader what path Zhang Yimou has traveled and show what his filmography is focused on. The second chapter describes the history of China and what Chinese society has gone through. It also presents the ideology of Confucianism and how it influences society and women's lives. The last chapter, i.e. the third one, is a key chapter of the work, as it shows what symbolic meaning of women is conveyed by the author of the films and how they are connected with the problems of society. It shows a pattern of thinking and acting that is repeated throughout Chinese history.

Niniejsza praca opisuje znaczenie symboliczne kobiet w filmografii Zhang’a Yimou oraz w jaki sposób wiąże się ono ze społeczeństwem chińskim. Chiny są krajem o bogatej historii oraz kultury. Charakteryzują się przywiązaniem do swojej tradycji oraz zasad konfucjanizmu. Praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów. Pierwszy z nich przedstawia słynnego chińskiego filmografia oraz opisuje jego historię. To wprowadzenie ma na celu ukazanie czytelnikowi jaką drogę przebył Zhang Yimou oraz pokazać na czym skupia się jego filmografia. Drugi rozdział opisuje historię Chin oraz przez co przechodziło społeczeństwo chińskie. Ukazuje także ideologię konfucjanizmu oraz jaki ma wpływ na społeczeństwo oraz życie kobiet. Rozdział ostatni, czyli trzeci stanowi kluczowy rozdział pracy, gdyż ukazuje on jakie symboliczne znaczenie kobiet przekazuje autor filmów oraz jak łączą się z problemami społeczeństwa. Pokazuje pewien schemat myślenia oraz działania, który powiela się przez całą historię Chin.
