European Heritage Label - a new form of protection of cultural heritage? The role and significance of the initiative in the context of the protection of cultural goods

Dziedzictwo kulturowe stanowi istotny element w kształtowaniu tożsamości społeczeństwa. Dziedzictwo kulturowe może być traktowane jako pomost między przeszłością a przyszłością. Jest to część dawnych kultur, która zachowała się do czasów współczesnych ze względu na posiadane wyjątkowe wartości. Niniejsza praca ma na celu zaprezentowanie nowego programu unijnego pt. "Znak Dziedzictwa Europejskiego", który to obejmuje obiekty związane z dziedzictwem o znaczeniu europejskim. W pracy została przedstawiona historia tej inicjatywy, jej główne cele i założenia, szczegółowe wytyczne dla obiektów starających się o wpis na tą listę oraz propozycje planów na dalsze działania. Projekt ten ma za zadanie wzmocnić u odbiorców poczucie przynależności do Unii Europejskiej poprzez działania promocyjne i edukacyjne. Z terenów Polski wpisem na listę Znaku Dziedzictwa Europejskiego zostały do tej pory uhonorowane 6 obiektów. Program jak na razie jest w początkowej fazie rozwoju o czym świadczy jego niska rozpoznawalność.

Cultural heritage is an important element in shaping a society's identity. Cultural heritage can be seen as a bridge between the past and the future. It is a part of ancient cultures that has survived to modern times due to its unique values. This paper aims to present the new EU program entitled The "European Heritage Label" which covers heritage sites of European interest. The paper presents the history of this initiative, its main goals and assumptions, detailed guidelines for objects applying for inclusion on this list and proposed plans for further actions. This project is designed to strengthen the audience's sense of belonging to the European Union through promotional and educational activities. So far, 6 objects from Poland have been entered into the European Heritage Label list. So far, the program is in the initial stage of development as evidenced by its low recognition.
