"Sometimes I think I understand everything, sometimes - nothing" : the image of Ukraine in "Tatuaż z tryzubem" [A Tryzub tattoo] by Ziemowit Szczerek

Autorka rekonstruuje obraz Ukrainy w "Tatuażu z tryzubem", analizuje sposoby jego tworzenia oraz stawia pytania o cel kreślenia takiego właśnie wizerunku przez Ziemowita Szczerka. Udzielając odpowiedzi wskazuje na zakorzenienie prezentowanej wizji Ukrainy w tradycji literackiej i w wyobrażeniach stereotypowych oraz na podporządkowanie tego obrazu zamierzeniu porównywania sytuacji Polaków i Ukraińców, ich autoidentyfikacji i samooceny. Formułuje na koniec wniosek o zdominowaniu metody twórczej Szczerka w tej książce przez gry literackie.

The author reconstructs the image of Ukraine in Tatuaż z tryzubem [A Tryzub tattoo], analyses the methods of its creation and asks questions about the purpose of drawing such an image by Ziemowit Szczerek. By providing answers, she indicates that the presented vision of Ukraine is rooted in the literary tradition and stereotypical images, and that this image is subordinated to the intention of comparing the situation of Poles and Ukrainians, their self-identification and self- -image. Finally, the author formulates a conclusion that Szczerek’s creative method in this book is dominated by literary games.
