"There is no great genius without an admixture of madness" : the romantics and Przemysław Dakowicz about madness and poetry
The aim of the text is to present the issues of madness and body of work. "Madness and Insanity: History of Madness in the Classical Age" written by Michel Foucault served me to show the changes in comprehending insanity / madness and allowed to show some interpretative shifts between romanticism and modernity. The most important thought that I got from Foucault it is his claim that romanticism has changed the way of see madness, from contempt and humiliation of mind going towards the older translation, which is the recognition of madness as a not very nice gift, but still it as the saint's gift from the God. This thesis has been supported by examples of romantic works (e.g. "Romantyczność"). It was particularly important to choose texts equating the poet (also the artist in general) and the madman, their peculiar saint "vision". It was a bridge to Przemysław Dakowicz's view, who continues a romantic idea. Dakowicz is playing with romantic heritage. At his works poet/mad (similar to the philosopher), they all have some special insight into the essence of the world.
