Honor as a motive for the behaviour of Iskender Toprak, the main character of Elif Shafaks novel Honor

Iskender Toprak, the main charakter of Elif Shafak's book "Honor", is a teenager who lives in London in the Hackney district. He comes from a turkish-kurdish family in which honor was a value presented as one of most important in human life. As a result of the definition of honor acquired during his childhood, he punished his mother, who by her actions exposed their family to the loss of respect. By mistake, he took the consequences from his aunt, his mother's twin sister, giving her a death blow to the heart. The woman dies and the boy is sentenced to prison.
