The role and significance of transit countries in relation to the energy security of the European Union with the example of Turkey and Ukraine

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zwrócenie uwagi na rolę jaką państwa tranzytowe odgrywają względem bezpieczeństwa energetycznego Unii Europejskiej. Zaprezentowany bilans energetyczny Wspólnoty oraz szczegółowa analiza bilateralnych relacji Unii Europejskiej z Turcją i Ukrainą zwraca uwagę na stopień jej zależności od surowców importowanych z państw trzecich. Dodatkowo, analiza wyzwań i potencjalnych zagrożeń płynących ze wzajemnej współpracy energetycznej ma na celu zwrócenie uwagi na kruchość ustaleń dotyczących dostaw surowców między partnerami i możliwych z tego względu negatywnych implikacjach dla stosunków międzynarodowych w XXI wieku. Końcowa część wywodu skupia się na wstępnej analizie współpracy energetycznej pomiędzy Unią Europejską i Ukrainą w obliczu inwazji Rosji na Ukrainę. Metodami, jakimi posłużono się w celu weryfikacji hipotez były metoda porównawcza oraz metoda systemowa. Ponadto do zbierania i analizy danych wykorzystano następujące techniki badawcze: analiza treści dostępnych dokumentów, ekspertyz i raportów, a także analizę statystyczną danych ilościowych.

The dissertation aims to draw attention to the role played by transit countries in relation to the energy security of the European Union. The presented energy balance and a detailed analysis of the European Union's bilateral relations with Turkey and Ukraine highlight the degree of its dependence on energy resources imported from third countries. In addition, analysis of the challenges and potential threats of mutual energy cooperation aims to underline the fragility of arrangements for the supply of resources between partners, and the possible negative implications for international relations in the 21st century. The final part of the dissertation focuses on a preliminary analysis of energy cooperation between the European Union and Ukraine in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The methods used to verify the hypotheses were the comparative method and the system method. In addition, the following research techniques were used to collect and analyze data: analysis of the content of available documents, expert opinions and reports, as well as statistical analysis of quantitative data.
