Le monde des animaux dans le Roman d'Alexandre d'Alexandre de Paris

Niniejsza praca magisterska poświęcona jest analizie świata zwierząt przedstawionego w Powieści o Aleksandrze Aleksandra z Paryża (XII w.). Praca składa się z czterech głównych rozdziałów, które są poświęcone czterem typom zwierząt, które spotkał Aleksander Wielki. Pierwszy rozdział przedstawia Bucefala, ukochanego konia króla i jego wiernego towarzysza. Drugi rozdział analizuje obecność Dentiranta, cudownego zwierzęcia, które Aleksander i jego armia spotykają podczas wyprawy do Indii. W kolejnym rozdziale przedstawione są węże i ich wpływ na dzieciństwo oraz dorosłe życie króla. Ostatni rozdział koncentruje się na ptakach, w szczególności na gryfach, dzięki którym Aleksander realizuje swoje marzenie o podboju nieba. Całości pracy dopełnia wstęp, konkluzja oraz bibliografia tekstów źródłowych i krytycznych.

Le présent mémoire de maîtrise est consacré à l’analyse du monde des animaux dans le Roman d’Alexandre d’Alexandre de Paris (XIIe siècle). Le travail est composé de quatre chapitres principaux consacrés aux quatres types des animaux qu’Alexandre le Grand rencontre. Le premier chapitre évoque le personnage de Bucéphale, son cheval bien-aimé et son fidèle compagnon. Le deuxième chapitre parle de Dentirant, animal merveilleux et étrange qu’Alexandre et ses compagnons rencontrent dans les déserts de l’Inde. Le chapitre suivant se concentre sur les serpents et démontre leur importance dans l’enfance du roi et dans sa vie d’adulte. Le dernier chapitre évoque les oiseaux, en particulier les griffons qui aident le roi à réaliser son rêve de dominer l’espace aérien. L’ensemble du travail est complété par les conclusions et la bibliographie des textes étudiés et des ouvrages critiques.

This master’s thesis is devoted to the analysis of the animal world depicted in The Novel of Alexander written by Alexander the Paris. The thesis consists of four main chapters, which are devoted to the four types of animals that Alexander the Great encountered. The first chapter introduces Bucephalus, the king’s beloved horse and faithful companion. The second chapter presents Dentirant, a wonderful and unknown animal that accompanied Alexander and his army on their expedition to India. The next chapter introduces the snakes and their impact on the king’s childhood and adult life. The final chapter focuses on birds, particularly gryphons, through which Alexander decides to realize his dream of conquering the sky. The whole thesis is completed with a conclusion and a bibliography of critical texts.
