What is hidden behind the translation hedge of the animated film Over the hedge: a comparative analysis of its Italian and Polish translations

The thesis presents the notion of audiovisual translation, with main focus on dubbing. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze and compare humorous and culture specific fragments in the animated film “Over the Hedge” and its Polish and Italian dubbed versions. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the definition of audiovisual translation and its types, with main focus on dubbing. Chapter two is focused on the notion of humor and includes classification of humorous situations and jokes from translator’s perspective. Chapter Three discusses the problem of untranslatability and non-equivalence. It also presents the notion of wordplay and strategies for translating wordplays and cultural elements. The introduction to Chapter Four consists of plot overview and information about the film. Chapter Four is devoted to the comparative analysis of the cultural references, linguistic references, and visual elements which occurred in the analyzed film.

W niniejszej pracy magisterskiej podjęto temat przekładu audiowizualnego, w szczególności dubbingu. Głównym celem pracy jest analiza elementów humorystycznych i kulturowych występujących w animowanym filmie „Over the Hedge” oraz w polskiej i włoskiej wersji dubbingowej. Praca została podzielona na cztery rozdziały. W pierwszym rozdziale przybliżono definicje tłumaczenia audiowizualnego oraz jego typy, z głównym uwzględnieniem dubbingu. Rozdział drugi przedstawia pojęcie humoru oraz klasyfikację sytuacji humorystycznych i żartów z perspektywy tłumacza. Rozdział trzeci omawia problem nieprzetłumaczalności i braku ekwiwalencji, a także opisuje gry językowe i strategie tłumaczeniowe dotyczące elementów kulturowych i gier językowych. Wprowadzenie do rozdziału czwartego zawiera krótki opis fabuły oraz informacje dotyczące filmu. Rozdział Czwarty poświęcony jest analizie porównawczej odniesień kulturowych, elementów językowych oraz wizualnych, które wystąpiły w analizowanym filmie.
