Sztuka przekładu Dr. Seussa. Identyfikowanie strategii tłumaczeniowych zastosowanych przez Stanisława Barańczaka

Istnieje wiele różnych podejść do tłumaczenia dzieł literatury dziecięcej. Gdy jedni preferują udomowienie, inni są zwolennikami egzotyzacji. W niniejszej pracy licencjackiej zastosowano ilościową metodę badawczą w celu zidentyfikowania strategii zastosowanych przez Stanisława Barańczaka podczas tłumaczenia książki I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! (2003) autorstwa Theodora Geisela. Pierwszy rozdział przedstawia krótki przegląd literatury dziecięcej w przekładzie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tłumaczenia książek obrazkowych dla młodszych odbiorców. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest Dr. Seussowi; jego karierze, sławie i stylowi, a także Stanisławowi Barańczakowi i jego stylowi. W rozdziale trzecim zamieszczono analizę ilościową przetłumaczonego tekstu ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tego, jak tłumacz radzi sobie z kwestią łączenia oryginalnych ilustracji z tekstem przekładu oraz prostoty oryginału.

There are several schools of thought when it comes to translating for children. While some prefer to domesticate, others are in favour of foreignization. The quantitative method of research was applied in this paper to identify the strategies employed by Stanisław Barańczak while translating I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! (2003) written by Theodor Geisel. The first chapter presents an overview of children’s literature in translation with particular emphasis on translating picture books for the younger audiences. The second chapter is devoted to Dr. Seuss; his career, fame and style; as well as Stanisław Barańczak and his style. In the third chapter there can be found a quantitative analysis of the translated text with the special attention to how the translator tackles the issue of correspondence between the original illustrations and the translated text as well as the simplicity of the original.
