How Universities and NGOs collaborate

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) differ from universities in many aspects, including those concerning organisational culture, values and ways of functioning. With this in mind, the aim of this chapter is to present the specific nature of collaboration between universities and NGOs regarding the implementation of the third mission of the university sector. The paper examines the existing cooperation typologies of universities–non-governmental organisations (UNI-NGOs). Taking into account changes in the environment and emerging social challenges, the evolution of UNI-NGOs is also described considering the actors, fields and methods of collaboration involved. The factors influencing this institutional cooperation are also presented.
