The role of stewards in improving security of mass sport events

Przedmiotem opracowania jest problematyka związana z procesem wdrażania stewardingu na polskich stadionach piłkarskich. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie funkcji stewarda w kontekście podnoszenia standardów bezpieczeństwa i obsługi klienta podczas meczów piłki nożnej w Polsce. Celem jest także rozpoznanie motywów podjęcia pracy stewarda oraz poznanie opinii stewardów na temat problemów dotyczących bezpieczeństwa i organizacji imprez masowych w Polsce. W opracowaniu wykorzystano metodę sondażu – badanie ankietowe wśród 72 stewardów z czterech polskich klubów. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań wywnioskowano, że osoba stewarda może stanowić skuteczne uzupełnienie uzbrojonych ochroniarzy i policjantów. Praca stewarda podczas meczu piłki nożnej wpływa pozytywnie na zachowanie i bezpieczeństwo kibiców.

The main aim of the paper is to present the role stewards play in the process of improving security and customer service during football matches in Poland. Another objective of this article is to explore the motives for becoming a steward as well as to analyze the opinions of Polish stewards on the issues of security and mass sport events organization in Poland. The questionnaire survey method has been used in the article (it was conducted with 72 stewards working for 4 football clubs in Poland). The results prove stewards to effectively complement and reinforce the armed bodyguards and police services, as their work has positive effects on the fans’ behavior and safety.
