The symbol of light in the New Testaments apocryphal gospels as a condition for the mythical epiphanic narrations

Article investigates the relation between how the symbol of light is being present in some religious texts and what is their position in the canon. Epiphanic moments of Jesus' life are closely examined in both canonical and apocryphal Christian writings, mainly his birth, baptism and the transfiguration at Mount Tabor, but also some marginal epiphanies were taken into consideration. The analysis indicates that if the ambivalence of a photic symbolism is exposed in a text, it works in favor for its qualification as sacred.

Artykuł bada związek między tym, w jaki sposób symbol światła jest obecny w tekstach religijnych a ich pozycją w kanonie. Poddane analizie zostały momenty epifaniczne z życia Jezusa zarówno w pismach kanonicznych, jak i apokryficznych (głównie narodziny, chrzest i przemienienie na Górze Tabor, oraz niektóre marginalne moment, w których szczególnie istotna okazała się badana symbolika). Analiza pozwala postawić tezę, że ekspozycja ambiwalentnego charakteru symboliki fotycznej w tekście działa na korzyść jego kwalifikacji jako świętego.
