Klasyczne przysłowia jako element siedemnastowiecznej kultury retorycznej : z badań nad zbiorem "Adagia Polonica" Grzegorza Knapiusza

This article presents new perspectives in research of the classical proverbs included in the trilingual, seventeenth-century collection Adagia Polonica, compiled by Polish jesuitic scholar Grzegorz Knapiusz (Gregorius Cnapius). The author attempts to utilize Greek and Latin materials as a tool for the complex analysis of the rhetorical culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and its European background. Therefore, three aspects of research are suggested: (1) solving the genological problem related to the ambiguity of the term adagium·, (2) tracing the changes in the classical materials, caused by the indirect transmission and wide circulation; finally, (3) reconstructing the seventeenth-century literary consciousness by analyzing the frequency of quotations from certain authors and works.
