The Language of Rebellion in the Works of Stanislaw Brzozowski

The works of Stanislaw Brzozowski reflect all modernist doubts about language. Under the influence of the works of such philosophers as Henri Bergson or Friedrich Nietzsche, the author of 'Legenda Mlodej Polski' (The Legend of Young Poland) formulated his own concept of the scientific discourse. The conviction about its untransparency led Brzozowski to abandon the traditional way of writing. Following Bergson, the writer used to repeat that the scientific terminology remains an abstract system, completely unrelated to the dynamism and changeability of life. Brzozowski was convinced that to hang on too tightly to logic and methodology destroys our ideas, because it separates them from emotions and feelings. In his opinion, 'a method' makes the process of thinking 'mechanical', which is disastrous for originality, freshness, and creativity. That is why in his works Brzozowski decidedly abandoned the official language of science for the sake of a more personal and emotional style.
