Problemy prezentacji kartograficznej na mapach sozologicznych w dużych skalach (z prac Zakładu Kartografii IG UW)

In recent years much effort is done to counteract efficiently the factors and processes responsible for degradation of the natural environment. The earth sciences faces the task of investigation and inventory of the regional structure of the environment development and degradation. An urgent need of elaboration the detailed maps documenting the condition of the environment gave rise to methodological attempts in 1975 and, in consequence, resulted in the preparation of the general instruction for the sozological mapping for the maps 1 : 10 000 and 1 : 25 000. The contents of surveys permits to develop a comprehen sive map of the environment degrading factors on the background of the selected and use elements and natural features of the area as concerns the qualitative characteristics. The instruction failed however, to account satisfactorily for the theoretical principles of constructing of cartographic symbols. In taking up a discussion on the subject in the Cartography Department three cartographically correct versions of graphic solution to the same question were developed. This has substantially constributed to an increased informative value of the maps made on new assumptions. The article gives a detailed account of the of those solutions.
