The Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and European Community Council commonly known as the Water Framework Directive, the implementation guidelines as well as methodological guidebooks assignee importance to GWB’s conceptual models which are used in the design and operational phase of the groundwater monitoring development. The conceptual model presents in a simplified way the GWB hydrogeological system, its structure, processes inside the system and its links to the surrounding areas. The conceptual model is used to select the aquifers to be monitored, site observation wells and interpretate the quantity and quality data concerning the GWB.
