The year 1919 was between the two years of key importance for modern Poland:1918, when Poland regained independence, and 1920, the year of final victory in the war against Bolsheviks and establishing the borders of the Second Polish Republic. However, 1919 was full of battles against various external enemies: in the east, with the troops of the West Ukrainian People's Republic and the Bolshevik Red Army, while in the south, with the Czech Army. It is also the year of the uprisings against Germany in Greater Poland and Silesia. And at that turbulent time the Polish Geological Institute was established.
