This article presents the results of geological engineering investigations near the chapel of St. John of Dukla. In connection with the discovery of a historic bell buried during World War II and the renovation of the bell tower, the Bernardine Order in Dukla in 2021 asked the author of this paper to determine the stability of the slope near it. Inclinometer and piezometer measurements of the area under the chapel made it possible to check the effectiveness of the pile buttress and drainage system that had been constructed. They also made it possible to observe displacements in the ground to warn of landslide dangers. Analysis of the geological processes occurring and the studies performed, as well as the 64 series of measurements made it possible to assess the effectiveness of the 2004 stabilization work and the degree of stability of the slope in the area of the planned renovation of the bell tower. The measurements made indicate that the region of the chapel has been protected from the possibility of large-scale deep ground displacements. On the other hand, the region below the made stabilization may continue to be exposed to landslide processes. Numerical analyses in the section below the bell tower performed on the basis of the 2002 geological documentation, without taking the stabilization into account, showed that there were very low stability coefficients FS = 0.78 for the entire slope. With the inclusion of the 2004 stabilization, the stability coefficient increased, but it was still relatively low and amounted to FS = 1.03. The analysis of the bedrock layers in the area of the renovated bell tower confirmed the possibility of its renovation, which included the construction of new foundations, a mechanical actuation system as well as the suspension of the bell found after 80 years, which was implemented, taking into account the recommendations made by the author, in May 2022. The protection of the chapel of St. John of Dukla seems to have been successful so far, but due to the scale of the phenomena occurring in the past, the large difference in the relative height of the slope, the unfavorable strength parameters of the subsoil and at the same time the special nature of the chapel of St. John of Dukla, monitoring measurements should be continued.
