A development of all measurement methods and equipment applied in geotechnics has been brought about by technical and technological progress of the recent years. The development resulted in the situation when designers and people responsible for the safety of geotechnical and construction facilities have a wide range of measurement techniques at their disposal. This provides them with an opportunity for a balanced, also in terms of economy, selection of a measurement method suitable for a monitored facility conditions. However, the greatest and most rapid progress of the changes has been seen in the inclinometric measurement technique. More and more widespread use of automatic inclinometer measurements, particularly by means of ShapeAccelArrays (SAA) probes, is going to continue. Nevertheless, it will still depend on financial conditions.
