Application of data statistics for fire risk analysis in residential buildings
It’s not easy for us to forget the tragic fire, which occurred in Poland on 13 April 2009 in Kamien Pomorski, where 23 people died [1, 2]. This fire was very spectacular and shocked all Polish community because of the huge consequences for humans and infrastructure. If we look at the fire statistics we will see that not only big fires result in fatalities and injured but also in case of other fire incidents, classified as small or medium. E.g. in 2009 there were 159122 fires where 27491 fire service interventions applied to residential buildings. During these incidents there were 584 fatalities. Although residential fires present 17,28% of all fires, they brought us 80% of all fire fatalities. Assessing our terrifying fire statistics we can indicate some trends to help us in improvement the fire safety level in residential buildings.
