Opracowanie prezentuje przegląd badań prowadzonych nad zagadnieniami kultury wysokiej i przemysłem muzycznym w Katowicach w latach 2007-2010, w ramach projektów badawczych Ministerstwa Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego pod kierunkiem prof. zw. dr hab. Andrzeja Klasika. Poruszone zagadnienia związane z muzyką i przemysłem muzycznym Katowic, obejmują: identyfi kację skupień podmiotów kultury wysokiej i przemysłów kreatywnych miasta, wskazanie muzyki i przemysłu muzycznego jako działalności rdzeniowej, identyfi kację i charakterystykę wybranych produktów przemysłu muzycznego, szczegółową analizę łańcucha podażowego przemysłu muzycznego.

The issues discussed in the paper, referring to the music and the music industry in Katowice, include: identification of high culture’s and creative industries’ clusters in the city, indication of the music and the music industry as a core activity, identification and description of selected products of the music industry, detailed analysis of a supply chain of the music industry. The methodological framework used in the investigation based on research approaches related to: creative city and creative industries, the UNESCO’s criteria for identifying centers of excellence in music, institutional analysis of the music industry, music industry supply chain. Empirical verification of the issues referring to the high culture and the music industry in Katowice covers the years 2007-2010.
