There is a conviction that the press, radio, television influence substantially the perception of various public institutions, armed forces including. According to the research, mainly television provided the knowledge concerning national security and it became the main source of information, shaping our society defence awareness, the attitude towards the armed forces and security in broadly understood. The press was on the second position, radio and book on the third. It is worth noticing a general lack of interest in defence education problems which may mean a common distrust towards the presented contents. In general, an average Pole avoids being engaged in endeavours concerning the protection and defence of the state. Thus there is a need to correct an existing model to inform society in the area of defence. This duty should not be carried out merely by the armed forces but by professionals who deal with these problems in civilian environments.
