The article discusses the development of legal regulations on fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) in the European Union, with particular emphasis on the impact of these regulations on climate and environmental protection. It analyses key legal acts from the Vienna Convention to the latest Regulation (EU) 2024/573, which aims to reduce F-gas emissions in the EU by 2050. It indicates the effectiveness of the current regulations, restricting the use of HFCs and activities in the area of leak control of refrigeration installations. It also discusses the illegal trade in HFCs and its consequences. It presents alternative, more ecological refrigerants with low GWP potential, as well as the technological challenges associated with their large-scale implementation. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of further actions towards climate neutrality in Europe, the achievement of which requires intensification of regulatory and technological efforts in the refrigeration sector.
