Inicjatywa poszerzonego Bliskiego Wschodu w polityce bezpieczeństwa USA
The article characterises a relatively new American political offensive called Greater Middle East Initiative (GMEI). GMEI is a proposal to introduce, due to an effective support of countries belonging to G8 and first of all with active participation of Muslim countries, extensive changes that would lead to the stabilisation of the situation in the Greater Middle East region. The suggested directions of reforms within the GMEI initiative are: to promote democracy and good management, building up an educated society, improving women’s education and activities for economic development. The geographical framework of GMEI is not clearly defined; generally, this initiative refers to Arab countries and Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Israel. During the G8 summit on Sea Island (9-11.06.2004) the American Greater Middle East Initiative was extended and transformed in a common enterprise of the seven richest countries in the world and Russia called Partnership for Progress and a Common Future with the Region of the Broader Middle East and North Africa.
