Datowania izotopowe skał z Wyspy Króla Jerzego (Antarktyka Zachodnia) za pomocą mikrosondy jonowej SHRIMP IIe/MC
King George Island is essentially composed entirely of volcanogenic rock formations. Until the beginning of research in this area by the Polish Geological Institute -NRI, the volcanic rocks were dated mainly by the K-Ar method, which turned out to be highly insufficient. Initially, dating of volcanic rocks using the SHRIMP methods was performed in cooperation with the National Australian University in Canberra, and then continued at the Micro-Area Laboratory in Warsaw (PGI-NRL). These newly obtained ages change substantially the existing stratigraphic chart of King George Island. Additionally, our new isotopic and palaeomagnetic studies support research on the development of glaciers in Antarctica, as well as on climate changes.
