The defence industry in fact did not exist in Poland until 1950. However, since 1945 the first attempts were made to start the production of guns, TT pistols, ammunition for guns, pistols, artillery and other assortments. These activities were often conducted without appropriate documentation, basing only on the already existing patterns. These tasks were mainly performed in systematically rebuilt defence factories erected in the between-the-wars period. As a result of war, they were largely destroyed, while the machines were either stolen or taken away. The first version of the 6-year plan developed in 1945-1950 did not include defence industry building. However, the worsening international situation, particularly J. Stalin's politics, forced undertaking tasks connected with raising the defence potential of the country since 1951. The main components of the defence production comprised the industries of ammunition, air force, tanks, artillery and guns, optical, radars and telecommunication, cars and other vehicles and the production of equipment for chemical defence and engineering. The hasty defence industry reconstruction in 1950-1955 was beyond the economic abilities of the country, while the industrialisation conducted then was based on the assumptions of Marxist doctrines and showed military and economic self- sufficiency characteristics. The cost of armed forces and defence industry build greatly exceeded the possibilities of the country. The economy was in fact turned into a military direction that influenced the consumption production and its future state.
