Zagrożenie wyrzutami w KGHM „Polska Miedź” S.A. O/ZG „Rudna” - stan po czterech latach od wyrzutu

The gas and rock breakout which occurred in 2009 at the Branch Mine "Rudna" has motivated the Mine authorities to undertake a number of measures focused on identifying the scale, propagation and intensity of the hazard, as well as several other numbers for preventive minimisation of the threat. This paper discusses, among others, the evaluation of the breakout hazard for the last four years since the breakout, the results of the geophysical surveys completed at the time, and the exploratory boreholes drilled to investigate the gas zones. Conclusions are made from the analysis which indicate that the gas outflows (of mainly nitrogen at over 90% with up to 5% of methane) are found only in 10% of the boreholes drilled in the direction of geophysically surveyed gas traps at the areas of tectonic interruptions and red clay limestone elevation zones. Based on the experience to date, a conclusion can also be made that surveying rock formations by seismic (tomographic) imaging for the purpose of exploratory operations and complemented with drilling can be an effective tool for ongoing monitoring of geodynamic gas hazards.
