Klastyczne i węglonośne utwory karbonu w podłożu i na przedpolu Karpat Zachodnich
The spatial distribution of the boreholes penetrating the clastic (Upper Visean - Lower Namurian A) and coal-bearing (Upper Namurian A - Vestphalian D) Carboniferous sediments in the basement and the foreland of West Carpatian is shown in the figure 1. The Carboniferous clastic sediments in the western part of the investigated area are represented by the marine deposits of the cryptoflysch type (Malinowice Beds), and in the eastern part by the deposits of the pseudomollase type (Zalas Beds). The lithostratigraphical units in the profile of the Carboniferous coal-bearing sediments here are known from the other parts of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. However, there is a strong reduction of the thickness of these units, from the NW towards SE direction. The stage of the thermal maturity contained in the Carboniferous rocks increases from the SE towards NW direction. Basing on the available data the thermal maturity does not show any relation on the recent depth of the Carboniferous rocks which lie under of the variable thickness complexes of the Miocene mollase and Carpathian flysch.
