Dynamic Characteristics of 4-Lobe Journal BearingWith Partial Sliding Surfaces
Multilobe journal bearings applied in grinding machines assure that the grinding spindle operate with very good preciseness of rotational motion and at very convenient cooling conditio of oil film. An example of such bearings is the 4-lobe bearing with partial sliding surfaces characterised by short angular length and closed in the bearing housing fully filled with the lubricant, i.e. fully flooded bearing. For the evaluation of bearing operation the dynamic characteristics expressed by the stiffness and damping coefficients were computed on the assumption laminar, adiabatic model of oil film. Developed code of computation allows the analysis of the different combinations of geometric and exploitation parameters including the pressurized oil supply.
