From the very beginning of human history, human beings have been travelling in order to learn about the world around them. Therefore, they have always aimed to create conditions that would allow them to safely pursue their goals. With this end in view, people have been using certain independent objects that are referred to as systems of navigation marks. Today the Earth is too small for human beings who are seeking to explore the universe. This is why the activities of research centres are directed towards making interplanetary flights possible. A journey into space requires taking a new approach to determining the position of spacecraft in a 3D system, which also provides opportunities for introducing qualitative changes to marine navigation. However, although we live in a time of great technological advancement, we should not forget about past and present advances in marine navigation. This article takes a look at the past and present and discusses the future of navigation.

Od zarania dziejów ludzie podróżowali w celu poszerzenia wiedzy o otaczającym ich świecie. Naturalną konsekwencją tych działań, było stworzenie przez nich warunków do bezpiecznej żeglugi, co uzyskano między innymi dzięki systemowi oznakowania nawigacyjnego. Gdy Ziemia okazała się dla ludzi zbyt mała, zapragnęli oni odkrywać wszechświat. Dlatego też współczesne działania ośrodków badawczych, ukierunkowane zostały na loty międzyplanetarne. I choć podróż w kosmos wymaga nowego podejścia do określania pozycji statku kosmicznego – w systemie 3D, jego utworzenie otworzyłoby cały wachlarz nowych możliwości, a co za tym idzie zmian jakościowych także dla nawigacji morskiej. W artykule przedstawiono historię, stan obecny oraz perspektywy rozwoju nawigacji.
