Analysis of stress distribution in hip joint after implantation of Weller stems
This study presents the results of numerical calculations of stress distribution in a model of healthy femur and after implantation of Weller II cement prosthesis. The obtained stress distribution allow for drawing conclusions about the processes of bone remodelling in the area of implant and for forecasting of effectiveness of implantation. The simulations were carried out by means of FEM for three types of stem material: CoCrMo alloy and titanium alloys of Ti6Al4V and Ti35Nb5Ta7Zr. The calculations revealed that implantation of prosthesis stem leads to unloading of prosthesis bone tissue, depriving it of natural stress which occurs in healthy femur, which might lead to loosening of the implant.
