One of the methods of information warfare is disinformation. Its task is to mislead the opponent by giving him false information. The aim of the article is to present the phenomenon of disinformation as a threat to modern societies. The article discusses the following issues: threats to information security, classification of disinformation, disinformation operations in communist and democratic states, historical and contemporary examples of propaganda disinformation. In recent years, there has been an extensive use of electronic media to disseminate disinformation content, which poses a threat to societies.
