Bezpieczeństwo Europy a fundamentalizm islamski

The article was written basing on the author’s participation in an international seminar „European Foreign Policy and Security” organised by Europa - Zentrum in Stuttgart on April 21-22, 1999. The author systematises the opinions of the main analysts dealing with Islamic issues, and, on this basis, he forms his own point of view. After presenting real sources of Islamic fundamentalism threats, he reaches a conclusion that we are not in danger of a war in Europe or a world war. Due to real (military and non-military) threats of Islamic fundamentalism, however, the author suggests that the international community should counteract it in an active way. According to the author, the first and necessary condition to undertake any actions in this direction should be to get to know religious and philosophical basis of the Islamic civilisation. The other condition is to create and support peace dialogue with liberal Islam and to aid the poor countries of this civilisation circle in order to fight against their economic problems.
