The article describes the main statements of the PN-EN 206-1 standard concerning concrete frost resistance. Particular attention was paid to proper concrete aeration, especially in the presence of mineral additives. The introduction of air-entraining admixtures to a concrete mixture with the high amounts of cements and additives does not guarantee the proper concrete aeration in its hardened state; a decrease of the total volume of air and the corruption of the air void system can be observed. In such a case, polymer microspheres can be applied instead of liquid admixtures.
