W artykule zamieszczono krótki przegląd ważniejszych i aktualnych zagadnień składających się na problematykę "zrównoważonego rozwoju transportu miejskiego". Omówiono dominującą rolę tej idei w polityce ekologicznej i transportowej Unii Europejskiej w ostatnich kilkunastu latach. Przedstawiono ważniejsze a zarazem perspektywiczne wysiłki naukowo-badawcze dotyczące budowy systemów zrównoważonego transportu miejskiego.

A short survey of the important and up-to-date questions dealing with the sustainable development of urban transport has been presented in the paper. A dominant role of this idea in the ecological and transport policy of the European Union for the period of the last a dozen or so years has been described. The most important and perspective results of the research and development efforts connected with construction of the sustainable urban transport systems have been discussed.
