Kesony stosowane do wykonywania fundamentów pod wodą przechodzą do historii ale historia ta jest bogata. Znane są również z choroby kesonowej, na którą chorowali pracujący w kesonach robotnicy. Zanim powstały kesony czyli odwrócone skrzynie metalowe wypełniane powietrzem pod ciśnieniem, stosowano rury żeliwne, z których wypompowywano wodę lub do których wprowadzano powietrze pod ciśnieniem.

Caissons applied to construction of foundations under water go down to posterity but their history is reach. They are known also from caisson disease which attacked workers being inside caisson. Caissons are the upturned metal boxes filled with the air under pressure. Before caissons appeared, cast-iron pipes had been used with pumping out the water or pressing in the air.
