The article is a presentation and analysis of the results of research on businesses' role in the public discussion on innovation, carried out at the end of 2002 in the 15 member states of EU. The survey involved 3014 executives - the management of enterprises employing at least 20 staff. The analysis identified those forms of communicating within a public dialogue that require intensified efforts for their improvement in the coming years.
