Propozycja reformy oznakowania rond i innych skrzyżowań z wyspą centralną

Niniejszy artykuł jest wstępem do dyskusji na temat czytelności obecnie obowiązującego oznakowania rond oraz innych skrzyżowań z wyspą centralną. Intencją autora nie jest negowanie faktu, iż dla większości użytkowników takich skrzyżowań oznakowanie jest zrozumiałe. Uważa on jednak, że jest tak bardziej ze względu na przyzwyczajenie niż czytelność i jednoznaczność przekazu stosowanego oznakowania. Do podjęcia tej tematyki skłoniły autora obserwacje zachowań wielu kierowców, mogące poddać w wątpliwość albo skuteczność obowiązującego systemu szkolenia, albo właśnie czytelność oznakowania. Zróżnicowanie sposobów oznakowania skrzyżowań z wyspą centralną o jednakowej organizacji ruchu wskazuje, że problem tkwi właśnie w oznakowaniu.

This article is an introduction to the discussion on the legibility of the current marking of roundabouts and other intersections with central island. The author's intention is not denying the fact that for most users of such intersections marking is understandable. However, the author claims that it is more so because of a habit, than the readability and communication clarity. The article was inspired by author's observations of the drivers' behaviours, which may question the effectiveness of the existing training system, or just the readability of the road signs. Diversification of means for marking intersections with the central island of the same traffic organization indicates that the problem lies precisely in road signs.
