Materials as well as the manuscript found in the Archive of the French Academy ofSciences concerning lead and silver ores mining in the surroundings of Olkusz are pre-sented. This data are connected with the research and observations made in Poland by the French naturalist J.E. Guetard (1760 - 1762) as well as the stay of the French diplomat P.M. Hennin in our country. Quoted information presents the state of mines of Olkusz, discusses the causes of their falling into decline as well as includes recommendations what should be done to reconstruct them.
