Feinstaube in der aussenluft : Eine interdisziplinare herausforderung fur forschung und technik in Europa
EU-Legislation addresses abatement technologies and health effects for fine particles (PM, particulate matter). As solutions for all 27 EU Member States have to be found new questions and political implications are emerging. One reason is the heterogeneous distribution of PM over Europe with regard to the different contributing emission sources. The EU Air Quality Directive revised in 2008 is based on numerous discussions about the PM problem within the CAFE project. But the problem could still not entirely be solved because of missing scientific data, which shall be available when the next revision of the Directive will take place in 2013. This paper describes technical/scientific and political instruments, which have to be developed further in order to find solutions for the PM problem within the EU and gives an overview on the present state of discussion.
