Quantification of cutting performance with tools treated with advanced coatings.

The paper summarises the state-of-the-art knowledge in modern coting technologies applied to cutting tools. Current industrial applications of tool coated with hard and/or soft layers of different structures and wear resistance for high performance machining are presented. Moreover, new trends in the cutting-tool coating area are specified based of the newest data presented on the website of world-class leaders in tooling for metal cutting applications. Results of experimental and analytical investigations of the contact temperature, friction and heat transfer during cutting of steels with coated tools are presented. The data obtained can be used for the selection of the appropriate cutting conditions in cutting steels with coated tools.

Praca przedstawia aktualny stan wiedzy z zakresu nowoczesnych technologii nanoszenia powłok na narzędzia skrawające. Dokonano przeglądu zastosowań twardych i/lub miękkich powłok o różnej strukturze i odporności na ścieranie w skrawaniu na sucho, z minimalnym wydatkiem medium smarującego i na twardo. Przedstawiono wyniki badań temperatury kontaktowej, tarcia oraz wymiany ciepła podczas skrawania różnych materiałów, umożliwiających dobór powłok przeciwściernych przy wytwarzaniu narzędzi skrawających.
