W artykule przedstawiono kr?tki zarys historyczny badań w zakresie stosowanych w odlewnictwie pyłów węglowych (nośników węgla) ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem mechanizmów działania w procesie na granicy metal-masa formierska. Opisane są również kryteria doboru odpowiednich surowców do wytwarzania najbardziej efektywnych produktów w tej grupie materiałów i możliwości badania zawartości nośnika węgla w masie formierskiej. Przedstawiono produkowane przez Firmę S&B Industrial Minerals na terenie Polski nośniki węgla w r?żnych wariantach, umożliwiających dostosowanie produktu do specyficznych warunków poszczególnych odlewni.

In the article a short history of the research works in the scope of the coal dust (carbon carrier) used in foundries, especially regarding the the mechanisms of the action in processes at the boundary: metal- moulding sand has been presented. There also were described the criterions of choising the corresponding raw materials for making the most effective products of this group of materials and the possibilities of determining the carbon carrier content in the moulding sand. Further the carbon carriers of different properties being produced in Poland by the firm S&B Industrial Minerals, enabling adaptation of them to the specific conditions of the particular foundry, as well as the possibilities of determining the carbon carrier content in the moulding sand have been presented.
