Spośród ponad piętnastotysiącznej rzeszy absolwentów Wydziału, wiciu zajmowało i zajmuje najwyższe stanowiska w przemyśle górniczym, poza górnictwem, w parlamencie, na różnych szczeblach samorządu i w rządzie. W artykule Autor przedstawił strukturą naukową Wydziału Górnictwa i Geologii; podział wewnątrznych jednostek naukowych na instytuty i katedry, wynikający z wymogów statutu Politechniki Śląskiej. Artykuł zawiera ponadto wystąpienie Dziekana Wydziału na Jubileuszowej Akademii Barbórkowej w dniu 1 grudnia 2000 r.

From among the group of fifteen thousand of graduates of the faculty, many took the highest posts in coal industry, outside the mining sector, in Parliament, various ranks in local self-government and National government. The author presents in the article scientific structure of the Mining and Geology Faculty; division of internal scientific units into institutes and departments resulting from the requirements of the statute of the Silesian Technical University. Besides, the article includes the address of the Dean of the Faculty during the Jubilee meeting on the occasion of Saint Barbara's Day i that took lace on December 1, 2000.
