Enthalpy Approach in Numerical Modelling of Solidification. Part 1
The basic mathematical model of heat diffusion as well in the case of pure metals and also the alloys solidification (a phase change at constant temperature and in its interval) is formulated in this way that the unknown function is directly a temperature, but it is possible to construct the model in which the searched function corresponds to the physical enthalpy of material considered. In this paper a such approach will presented, in particular the energy equation concerning the classical Stefan problem (solidification at constant temperature) disccused in (1) will be adapted on the case of the solidification in the temperature interval. On the stage of numerical computations the finite difference method is applied. In the final part of the paper the example of simulation is shown (heat treatment of steel ingot).
